Great Dog Almighty - Tonight @ Ars Nova

My first musical collaboration will be performed for the first time tonight as part of the Ars Nova Ant Fest 2010. I wrote about the process briefly on the youngblog.

It’s been a lot of fun. I’d wake up, have my cup of coffee, write some lyrics and e-mail them off to Nate. By late afternoon, it would be a song. We’d bring in John Bennett—and then later folks like Sarah Goldfeather, Emil McGloin, and others—and then it became like a band. Hard to think of a collaborative process as smooth as this one.

Tonight we’ll sing around 14 songs…my hope is that we can add 10 more in the months ahead and try to have a 24-track concept album ready for late-Spring, at which point I think the project will be complete….right? We’ll see…

…and who would have thought writing a play could take you to the hamptons?

I got to work on my play SWEET FORGOTTEN FLAVOR with EST over in Southampton for a few days and dang, did we have fun! Half the cast from the Bloodworks reading came out along with two new cast members that were terrific….when we were done working for the day, we went to the beach.

But the best part? The room they gave me to sleep/write had absolutely nothing in it. Considering I normally write surrounded by pets and laundry, a completely empty dorm room felt like a room at the Ritz.

What do you get when you mix Asheville, NC and New York City? It might look something like San Francisco, my new favorite little place. Let’s hope more people get married out there so I can visit again.
